Boat

Licence to Boat is a family-owned and operated business run by Mike and Laura, based in Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast. As parents of two boys, they know firsthand how important water safety is for families.

Mike is your QLD BoatSafe-approved trainer with over 10 years of licence training experience in Maroochydore. His background includes marine tourism across the Whitsundays and the Sunshine Coast, and he is a former dive instructor — so you’re in capable hands on the water.

Mike keeps course sizes small — a maximum of 4 students for boat training and just 2 for the standalone PWC course — so every student gets proper time and attention.

Laura manages the business side, making sure everything runs smoothly from your first enquiry through to completing your course.

DID YOU KNOW?

In Queensland, you must have a recreational marine licence to drive any boat that has an engine power greater than 6hp or [4.5kw]

To then drive a personal watercraft or jet ski, you must have a recreational marine licence and a personal watercraft licence (PWC).

Owner/ Operator & Head trainer Mike

Mike, is the owner and head trainer for Licence to Boat. He has a passion for teaching boating and marine skills. His core belief is that people learn best when they are relaxed and happy!! 

Mike has been on or around boats all his life either for work or for pleasure. He spent the past 10 years teaching Boat and Jetski Licencing on the beautiful Maroochy river and has many years working in the marine industry, both in tourism and commercially, in the Whitsundays and Sunshine Coast.

Mike has professional experience on fast craft, single and twin outboard, sailing and PWCs.

Mike’s qualifications:

  1. QLD Unrestricted Coxswains
  2. Marine radio operator’s licence
  3. SSI Open Water Dive Instructor
  4. Certificate IV Workplace Training and Assessment
  5. Senior First Aid

Maroochydore location

Licence to Boat courses is run on the Maroochy River, offering a safe, fun and practical training environment. The commencement point for our courses is in Driftwood Restaurant and Bar at Ingenia Rivershore Resort, it’s just 1 min from the Bradman Ave, Sunshine Coast Motorway turn-off, making it easily accessible from surrounding areas like Mooloolaba, Noosa, Caloundra and many more!

From our base at Rivershore Resort near Maroochydore, we offer Jet ski and Boat licence courses accessible to the whole of the Sunshine Coast.

There is parking available at the resort and refreshments are available from the onsite cafe/restaurant.
