Licence to Boat is a local, owner-operated boat licence school based near Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast. We offer BoatSafe and Maritime Safety Queensland approved Recreational Marine Drivers Licence (RMDL) and Personal Watercraft (PWC/Jet Ski) licence courses on the beautiful Maroochy River.
With a maximum of just 4 students per course, you’re never just a number — you get real, personalised attention from an experienced instructor. We’ve been operating for over 10 years and have trained thousands of people just like you.
Private courses for groups of 2 to 4 are also available on request, perfect for families or friends.
We’re conveniently located at Ingenia Rivershore Resort, with access to a private jetty for practising berthing in a safe, controlled environment.
Our friendly, step-by-step approach makes completing your boat or jet ski licence straightforward and enjoyable — whether you’re a first-timer or brushing up on your skills.

Our simple step-by-step system helps you through the requirements needed for your licence.
Step 1.
Our easy-to-use online theory course provides all the information required to complete your BoatSafe assessments.
Step 2.
Attend a training and assessment day. Hands-on, personalised training is provided by the owner to prepare you for your assessments.
Step 3.
Successfully complete your BoatSafe multiple choice theory assessment. You are allowed 2 attempts to achieve 100% at this.
Step 4.
Practical assessment time! Take a deep breath and put all you have learnt together.
*If unsuccessful on your first assessment attempt we will provide 30 minutes of additional one-on-one training and another assessment for free at a later date.

Originally named “Mickey”… until we realised “she” was actually a bloke.
After spotting him injured during one of our boat licence courses, we quickly realised we were way out of our depth… because apparently “how to catch a pelican” was not covered in the instructor handbook. 😂
So we called the experts — the amazing crew from Twinnies Pelican and Seabird Rescue 🩵
Watching them calmly and professionally rescue him was incredible. These legends dedicate their lives to rescuing and rehabilitating seabirds across Queensland, and the work they do deserves all the support in the world.
